The English Language Centre (ELC) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Senior Instructor/Instructor of English. The ELC is committed to empowering students to succeed in University studies and in life by engaging them in English, academic, and global skills learning. The ELC seeks to achieve its goals through the provision of courses in English for academic purposes, a writing centre, co-curricular language learning activities, and organizing summer programmes for pre-sessional students.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in TESOL/TEFL/ELT/English Education, or related fields. Applicants should have extensive EAP/ESP teaching experience at the tertiary level or equivalent, preferably teaching EFL/ESL students in English-medium higher education context. Candidates should demonstrate experience in (1) curriculum and material development in teaching English for academic purposes (four skills, grammar and vocabulary, academic skills and strategies), and (2) technology-enhanced classroom learning as well as developing e-learning exercises. Up-to-date knowledge and experience in current pedagogy, assessment, programme planning, and activity organization will be an advantage.
The successful candidates should possess the following abilities: effective ELT pedagogy in student-centred approaches, strong ability to build rapport with and motivate students, organizational skills, communication skills, collegiality, teamwork, and leadership skills. Excellent command of English is expected. The ability to speak Chinese is not required. Candidates are expected to engage in the Centre’s committee works and projects, and provide professional services to the University and the community. Academic research and publication are not required for the positions, but a specific pedagogy-oriented research interest/agenda is welcome. The appointed instructor(s) is expected to rotate and teach in the summer programme during the student summer recess period.
The selected candidate is expected to assume duty on 1 August 2025
Remuneration
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP559,300 (approximately USD69,050) will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
