北京林业大学是教育部直属、教育部与国家林业和草原局共建的全国重点大学。1996年被国家列为首批"211工程"重点建设的高校。2008年，学校成为国家"优势学科创新平台"建设项目试点高校。2017年，学校入选世界一流学科建设高校行列。
学校现有17个学院，65个本科专业及方向，25个硕士学位授权一级学科点，16个专业学位授权点，8个博士学位授权一级学科点，7个博士后流动站。我校林学和风景园林学两个学科入围"双一流"建设学科名单；7个学科进入ESI全球排名前1%，分别是植物与动物学、农业科学、环境科学与生态学、化学、工程学、材料科学、生物学与生物化学。
学校秉承"知山知水，树木树人"的办学理念，以生物学、生态学为基础，以林学、风景园林学、林业工程、农林经济管理和草学为特色，是农、理、工、管、经、文、法、哲、教、艺等多门类协调发展的全国重点大学，培养了包括16名两院院士为代表的一大批杰出科技专家和管理人才。
学校主动对接国家重大战略，在服务京津冀协同发展、黄河流域生态保护和高质量发展、北京副中心和雄安新区建设等重大战略中贡献北林智慧；在我国"三北"工程、"天保"工程、退耕还林还草工程、京津风沙源治理工程等国家重点林业生态建设工程中作出重大贡献；风景园林学科完成的西湖西进、珠三角绿道等项目引领全国风景园林规划设计；深度参与第二轮青藏高原综合科考行动；为"山水林田湖草"系统治理提供理论和技术支撑。
目前，学校正以办人民满意的高等教育为宗旨，按照学校第十一次党代会提出的新时代"三步走"战略，为建设成为扎根中国大地的世界一流林业大学而努力奋斗。
Overview of BFU
Beijing Forestry University (BFU) is a key national university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and affiliated to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA). It was listed among one of China's prestigious universities that are entitled to enjoy financial supports from the country's educational initiatives like the Higher Education Reinvigoration Project 211 in 1996 and became one of the pilot universities of National Excellence Program Platform in 2008. In 2017, it was listed under World First-Class Discipline Project of China.
Currently, BFU enjoys 17 schools and colleges offering 65 undergraduate programs, 25 first-category master's programs, 16 profession-oriented master's programs, 8 first-category doctoral programs and 7 post-doctoral programs. Its two disciplines, namely Forestry and Landscape Architecture, were listed in the First-class Discipline Project in China. Meanwhile, seven disciplines of BFU have entered into top 1% in ESI global ranking, including Plant & Animal Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Science & Ecology, Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Sciences and Biology & Biochemistry.
With the spirit of Champion in World Stewardship, Pioneer in Forestry Education, BFU has developed as a multidisciplinary national key university with coordinated development of agriculture, science, engineering, management, economics, culture, law, philosophy, education and art, and featuring in such disciplines as Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Forestry Engineering, Agro-forestry Economics and Grassland Science. It has cultivated a large number of outstanding scientific and technological experts and management talents including 16 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
In line with the demands of key national strategies such as the Integrated and Coordinated Development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, the Eco-conservation and High-quality Development of Yellow River Catchment, and the Construction of Beijing's Subsidiary Administrative Center and Xiong'an New Area etc., BFU has been well-prepared for the task and positively contributed its wisdom. At the same time, it has been a worthy think-tank and a vital part of these key national eco-restoration and conservation programs, including the Three-North Shelterbelt Forests Program, the Natural Forest Protection Project, the Grain for Green Project and the Beijing-Tianjin Sandstorm Source Control Program, etc. In addition, many celebrated landscape improvement programs are conceived and designed by the faculty members of School of Landscape Architecture, which play leading roles in designing trend of landscape architecture in China. Typical examples include the Westward Expansion Project of West Lake in Hangzhou, the Pearl River Delta Green Trail Network Project, etc. Moreover, it has been an active participant in the second round scientific and research expedition to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Efforts have been exerted with the goal of becoming an initiator and disseminator for the concept of "managing mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes and grasslands as an integrated ecological system" in terms of both theories and technologies.
At present, BFU is striving to build itself into a world-class Forestry University rooted in the land of China aiming to run higher education to the satisfaction of the people and in accordance with the "Three-step" strategy of the new era put forward by the 11th Party Congress of the University.
